Families have special needs, a yacht vacation is personalized
for your needs.
Usually this means selecting both the right size yacht and a crew which
understands and is able to provide for the special needs of
children. We are pleased to discuss this aspect of your charter
vacation personally with you. Some considerations are outlined below to familiarize
you with some factors which should keep in mind about planning your family yacht
vacation.

Regardless of the size and comforts offered by charter yachts Children are not always welcome. Criteria for accepting children are based on both the physical limitations of the boat and the comfort the crews have in their ability to provide a safe and enjoyable holiday for all onboard. Generally this breaks down by age and the maturity of the children. These are some typical guidelines which are commonly used by the yachts and a clarification of the rationalizations of these requirements. |

| Age 8-12yrs | Children of this age are likely to be responsible and are old enough to enjoy a variety of sporting activities with a moderate amount of supervision. It should be unnecessary for constant supervision of children about this age. Some "Kids" foods are available but usually these yachts do not offer a different menu for their young guests. |
| Water safe | Regardless the age of the children, if they cannot swim or are not mature enough to recognize the inherent danger of being around the water. A "Kids" menu is typically offered. |

Toddlers may not remember this vacation but certainly you, their parents will. Toddlers have special needs, and require plenty of attention. Guests should not expect the crew to be the "Babysitter" for this holiday. Crews keep quite busy sailing the yacht, preparing meals, and other required tasks. Charters with older, more responsible children as well as younger ones usually make an enjoyable trip for all. Many groups invite an older child of a relative or friend (and even their parents) to join them for the trip. |

You will are responsible for the care and feeding of babies just like at home. Do not depend on acquiring baby's food or formula in the islands, bring this from home. Diapers disposal create a situation on smaller yachts. The decision to bring your young children is completely up to you. Often there is no additional charge for babies are. |

| Most yachts do not offer a special, lower prices for
children. In defense of this policy, realities should be considered.
Although children do not consume as much provisions as adults, most chefs
point out that few kid refuse shrimp or lobster and many of the more pricey foods.
Often the kids tastes are so substantially different than those preferred
by adults, a full separate menu for them is developed, with substantial
added effort.
In the Virgin Islands, "bar" is included in the all inclusive
charter rate. Obviously children don't consume alcoholic beverages, but
even this represents no significant saving in provisions. Juice actually
costs about the same as rum, their is little difference between the cost
of beer or soft drinks... Clearly kids get more attention from the crew as the adults on charter, especially when it comes to sporting activities and talks about the islands and history....  In many cases, that Icon is also used to reflect sleeping
arrangements which are which are too small for most adults, but make a
great place for the children. Although some of our suggestions
of yachts for Families have all double cabins boats with single berths
are more common. |

| We often find extended families who wish to have plan a group yachting vacation with parents, adult children and their families. The usual inclination is to look for a yacht able to accommodate the entire extended family. | |
| A quick look at the larger Sailing, Catamaran, or Power yacht listings show some choices suitable for 12, 16, or more guests. | |
| Although some of these larger yachts are good choices for a
large group, it is best to consider all the options. Tandem charters, 2 or more yachts chartered by the same group can often provide better overall accommodations, more space, better service and more toys than a single larger boat. Often this choice results in a substantially lower price per person, and better overall satisfaction. Please keep this option in mind. We find that similar style yachts are best chartered together. Yachts typically will raft up at anchorage affording social interaction for the entire group. Many larger groups foster a competitive spirit between the two boats to the enjoyment of all.
