Anglo Irish Captain Hugh O'Brien is the owner operator of 5 Star Sailing and he oversees your every need while on board 5 Star, a 2008 Beneteau Oceanis 50. He is your Chef, Captain, Bartender, Sailing Instructor & Reef Guide. His sailing career began in 1990 and after many years of global sailing he gained his RYA 200 Ton Yachtmaster license. Hugh has extensive sailing & offshore navigation experience in Europe, Asia, the United States & the Caribbean. He is a certified SOLAS Captain (Safety of Life at Sea) and is trained in First Aid, CPR, Marine Firefighting, rescue, recovery and survival.
As your Captain, Hugh puts your safety first but rapidly follows that with your need for extensive fun and relaxation. He loves to share the sailing with guests, so whether you are a first time sailor or an experienced skipper he will welcome you to the helm. Hugh has many years of experience as a yacht chef in the Caribbean Charter Industry serving gourmet breakfasts, lunches, and dinners using only the finest and freshest ingredients that the Islands have to offer. Of course, the Captain’s unique sunset cocktails are always a guest favorite!

Prior to operating 5 Star, Hugh was a Charter Yacht Captain & Reef Guide in the Cayman Islands on a 92ft Trimaran and has a career background in Global Database Marketing Sales & IT in Europe, Asia, the US and Latin America. Hugh's South African wife Alison is a Corporate Executive in New York and was previously chef on board 5 Star! She escapes often and you may have the added bonus of her culinary and social skills on board from time to time....
