Hypnautic's Crew
Leo Lynne and Amy Emel
captain and crew
Leo Lynne
Capt. Leo was born and raised in NJ, and boating since the age
of 15. He ‘‘grew up’’ in NYC, so when the University
of Southern California presented him with a scholarship he traded cement
for sand. With Catalina and Mexico so close, he enrolled in USC’s
sailing and deepwater cruising program, and subsequently ended up teaching
the courses. When his ‘‘real’’ degree was handed
over, he entered the world of finance and opened commercial lending offices
in CA and NYC. He purchased a 42’ Hunter sailboat INFINITUS and
competed in the Newport to EnsenadaYacht race.Though he put some hardware
on the mantel he realized cruising was more his speed. With the 90hr work
weeks beginning to lose their luster, he spent some time traveling Europe
and accepted an invitation to sail the 44’ Lagoon CATATONIC from
France to the US.Truly enamored with the boat, he purchased one for his
family, outfitted her with just about every imaginable option, and brought
her to their favorite playground - the Caribbean. Unfortunately, family
health issues didn’t allow much use of HYPNAUTIC, so he hired its
first crew... and has recently completed its 4th successful year. Leo
has been coming to the Caribbean for 25 years and has sailed the entire
island chain to Venezuela. His experiences have been life changing. His
knowledge of the area, coupled with his island friendships, results in
a very welcome feel wherever he goes. With stories from around the world
and a love for entertaining, Leo has decided it was time to enjoy the
more social side of running the ‘HYPNAUTIC experience’.
Amy Emel
Born and raised in Southern California, Amy grew up spending
time on her father’s boat fishing off the island of Catalina. Cooking
became an interest of her life while she was raising three children and
a healthy family. Amy was blessed to experience living in the Chesapeake
Bay area, the islands of the Azores and Florida’s Emerald Coast.
When her family matured, she went back to school and fulfilled a dream
to become a pediatric nurse. Recently, her time has been devoted to boating,
diving, and creating enticing meals. Recently she has sailed from St.Thomas
to the Grenadines and is looking forward to sharing these islands with
her guests. At home she has honed her cooking skills with classes from
Distinctive Kitchens and private instructions from a top chef at a premier
resort on the Emerald Coast. Her personal experience with the water, love
for creating enticing meals and infatuation for the Caribbean will ensure
everyone an enjoyable, carefree vacation on HYPNAUTIC.
